My husband Don and I first met Carmin in January 1999 when we moved in across the street. As we were unloading a truck full of boxes and furniture, Carmin walks up with a pot of coffee and plate of cookies to welcome us to the neighborhood. I have never forgotten that gesture and how thoughtful he was to do that. That was the beginning of a great neighbor relationship. Don and I both enjoyed chatting with Carmin any time the moments presented themselves. He was justifiably proud of his huge tomato plants and tomatoes. I still miss those presents. Don and I feel honored that we were able to meet and know this amazing person. He is definitely missed but not forgotten.

Grandpa, you will be forever missed. You were the kindest, most caring and generous man I've ever known. You've been the rock of our family and without you here, it feels empty. Even though your physical suffering has ended, ours has begun. You are forever by the side of grandma, where you belong. My only regret is not living closer and seeing you on a regular basis. At least we had our long phone calls, which were always a huge comfort knowing I had such a great and powerful influence in my life. We love you so much and you'll always be in our hearts. My family will preserve your memory by following in your footsteps to achieve the goals in life you tried to instill in your children and grandchildren. My only hope is I can be half the respectable and caring person you were. When you passed, Nick summed it up by saying, "They don't make 'em like they used to", and he's right. Rest in peace with the ones that preceeded you and one day, we will be joined for eternity. We love you and you will never be forgotten...Renee, Nick, Phil, Isabel, Tory, Hailey and Erik Fleming

I first came to know Carmen during his time as a Sun Electric Company salesman. He cold called me in the middle of a busy morning (NO EAZY TASK!). The result of the cold call was I became the proud owner of a new Sun Sleuth 1 engine analyzer. Carmen returned frequently to make sure the analyzer was performing as advertised. For the record I still use the machine from time to time, it works great.
Several years passed and a new smog machine was required. There was no question who I was going to be doing business with. Carmen quickly supplied the machine. Again his follow up was complete and beyond my expectations. One day out of the blue, Carmen shows up with a freshly painted re-designed bottom roller stand. He explained that he had rebuilt it at his home shop. (On his own time) The original stand was not up to the task of supporting the machines weight. As we removed the roller stand from my machine, three of the four rollers fell off. Carmen likely saved my machine from a face plant on hard cement that the maintenance contract would not have covered.
Ten years or so passed, I found myself setting up a new shop. One afternoon Carmen calls and volunteers a day of hard labor on my behalf. He arrived at my new location early in the morning and spent the day putting parts room shelving together. As it turned out the length of the parts room was ¾ of an inch too short to accept the planned three lengths of shelving. No problem for Carmen! He made them fit by cutting, folding and re-drilling the mounting holes on five shelves. (AGAIN- NO EAZY TASK!) He calculated that there would be 1/8 clearance when the row was assembled, needless to say, the assembly fit perfectly.
Carmen was a brilliant machinist and problem solver. The engines he built from raw castings run like fine sewing machines and are works of art. He was a true gentleman devoted to family, friends, and doing the best job possible at all times.
