Chauncey Santoro Obituary

Chauncey Rocci Santoro

Resident of San Jose

The active life of Chauncey Rocci Santoro came to an unexpected end on October 20, 2010, of natural causes, at the age of 84. A native-born resident of San Jose, Chauncey was a pillar of strength, wisdom and reliability for his family and friends. His sense of humor, kind and patient demeanor, along with generous daily laughter kept him young at heart and his hearty laugh was his trademark. Chauncey retired from Southern Pacific Railroad after more than 40 years of dedicated service. After retirement, Chauncey kept active reliving his childhood with his then-young grandson. He had many interests including music, theater, art, movies, gardening, cooking and attending every event San Jose offered. Chauncey was an avid football enthusiast who was captivated the entire season each year, always hanging on to that thread of hope for his home team, the 49ers.

He is survived by his children; Beverly Santoro Troxel and Cynthia Santoro; his grandson, Kirk Troxel; his sister Violet Frevert; his nephew Anthony Guerrero; nieces Nancy Stenger and Susan Pistello; and many more nieces, nephews and cousins. Chauncey was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth (Betty) Santoro; parents Rocco and Ernesta Santoro; sisters Nancy Guerrero and Hazel Rinauro; a brother also named Chauncey; and niece, Stephanie Francisco.

Services will be held on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at 11:30 a.m., at St. Clare Chapel at the Santa Clara Mission Cemetery, with graveside services following. Reception to be announced after services.
