Clarke Harrisson Obituary

Clarke E. Harrisson

Resident of San Jose

Born in New York on Oct. 1, 1926, got his first job at seven and didn't quit working for another 72 years.

At 17 he joined the Navy in WWII's So Pacific fight as a landing craft pilot on the USS Griggs. His ship was the first to land on Japan after the A bombs dropped.

When Clarke came home he married June, and they had Pam and Gregg. Moving to sunny San Jose, Clarke became a broker and opened "Clarke Harrisson Real Estate." He also taught real estate law at Willow Glen's adult ed and won honors in local golf tournaments. After 26 years in real estate, Clarke became a top salesman at CalCoast Signs, recruiting large clients such as Crocker's Lockers, KLA Tencore and Fry's Electronics.

Clarke eventually retired at 80 and spent his last four years loving his children and four granddaughters. On September 22, Clarke came in from speaking to a neighbor, sat down on the couch and quietly closed his eyes. His children discovered him 90 minutes later when he did not answer his phone; police commented that they had rarely seen on anyone's face such a look of peace. Clarke's family found a 'love letter' taped to a wall dated months earlier, leaving behind his wishes and gratitude. One part read:

"I just want to thank God for the life he gave me and for my family and all the people I've known that made it worthwhile."
