Clyde Manley Obituary

Clyde S. Manley Jan. 10, 1915 - Feb. 5, 2008 Clyde died peacefully at home of natural causes on February 5, 2008. He was 93. Born in eastern Tennessee, he was the 7th of 10 children who grew up on a working farm. In 1935, he moved to San Jose, CA with his parents and two younger brothers. After working many odd jobs, Clyde opened his first "donut" shop in 1939. That same year, he married Nancy Walker. A successful entrepreneur for 38 years, he owned doughnut shops in Oakland, Alameda and founded "Manley's Donuts" in Willow Glen. Missing only one day of work during these many years, Clyde was rewarded with meeting new people and establishing friendships with his customers. After retiring in 1977, Clyde continued to enjoy his many interests, which included golf, attending sporting events, listening to music, and reading daily. Living at his last home for 30 years, Clyde was a beloved neighbor and friend to many families and their children in the neighborhood. Clyde loved his family and many relatives dearly by staying in touch even with those who lived hundreds of miles away. He was considered a favorite Uncle by many. Married for 68 years, he is survived by his wife Nancy, his daughters Cathy (Dan) and Marilyn (Chip), grandchildren Lisa and Steve (Melissa), and his great-grandchildren Jessilyn, William, and Danika. Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of his life, Wednesday, February 13, 2008, 1:30pm, at Oak Hill Funeral Home, Chapel of Roses, 300 Curtner Ave, San Jose, 95125. Donations may be made to the Odyssey Healthcare Hospice at 1500 Hamilton Ave, Suite 212, Campbell, 95008 or to the American Heart Association at 1 Almaden Blvd, Suite 500, San Jose, 95113.

Mr. Manley was a wonderful neighbor who always had a smile to share. He had a vibrance for life that showed, whether it was while he told a story of when the neighborhood was first built, or when he was tending his yard. Mr. Manley's spirit will live on in the many memories he shared so willingly. Condolences to his wife and family, and all those he touched, who feel loss with his passing.
