David Urban Obituary



David Edwin Urban

Resident of Campbell

59, beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away surrounded by loved ones, on November 18th, 2010 after a long and courageous battle with melanoma.

Dave was born in Detroit, MI on March 4, 1951 to Edwin and Regina Urban, and the eldest of their three children. As a teen, Dave worked as a bat boy at Tiger Stadium with his beloved Tigers. He earned a baseball scholarship with Henry Ford College in Michigan and studied and played ball there in 1971, and later earned a Bachelor's Degree in Comparative Literature in 1981 from San Diego State University.

In 1987 Dave married Linda Franklin, and in 1995 Pierce was born. He was an avid journalist, outdoorsman, gardener, and sports enthusiast, and spent hours teaching his son the game of baseball.

Dave was an active partner at Shur Sales, a local electronics distributorship he helped found in 1987. Patience, honesty, and integrity were not just words for Davethey were his way of life.

He was an inspiration to all who knew him for his optimism despite his battle. Dave is survived by his wife Linda, son Pierce, sister Pauline and brother Larry. Memorial services have been held.

Donations to help families cope with cancer are welcome to: Camp Kesem, Stanford, CA. Donations may also be made to Congregation Shir Hadash Memorial Garden, Los Gatos, CA.

:( Dave was one of my son, Bailey's first baseball coaches in Campbell little league. I am so saddened to hear of this news. He was a super nice guy, and wonderful mentor, and fabulous coach.
