Don Walker Obituary

Donald Bruce

Walker

Resident of San Jose

Born on Santa Teresa Street in downtown San Jose on October 15, 1921. Eventually, his family moved to South 12th Street where he grew up. He remained a San Jose resident until his death on November 7, 2010. As a child, he attended several schools including Lincoln Grammar, Horsemann Elementary, Roosevelt Junior, and the original San Jose High School which was later torn down to build San Jose State College. He joined the Army after the attack on Pearl Harbor and completed boot camp training in Oahu, Hawaii. He said many times that he "counted every rock and boulder on the road to the top of Diamond Head" during the military training he went through. As a soldier, he served bravely in battle during World War II. After the war, Don graduated from a trade school in San Francisco, and then worked for thirty years as Machinist for Westinghouse before retiring. He is survived by many including his stepsons Don and Gary Jackson, daughters-in-law Sandy and Marilyn Jackson, and several grandchildren including Jay Jackson, Jamie Jackson, Mary Jackson, Brandon Garza, Brandy Thomas, Bethlyn Wallace and Nick Wallace, and finally by his great granddaughter Zoie Garza and a future Wallace great grandson due to be born in April of 2011. We loved him and will miss him greatly.
