Donald Barr, born March 3, 1950 in Detroit, Michigan, died June 11, 2013 in Manteca, CA of heart & renal failure. Predeceased by his brother Randy Barr. Survived by the mother of his children, Susan Barr, son Donald D. Barr, daughter Erin E. Barr, stepson Michael Matthews, stepdaughter Sara Hunt, and 4 grandchildren.
Don was an avid hockey fan, the Detroit Red Wings were his passion when it came to sports. He also was a fan of the Detroit Tigers baseball team and the Detroit Lions football team. His favorite college sport teams were all Michigan Wolverines. Go Blue!
Other than his adult children Don had no "blood relatives" but he had friends that loved him and he loved them like brothers including but not limited to; Jimmy Craver, Artie Cesena, Bob Marcellino, Windle (Wimpy) Taxera, Bob Maxey, Tom Hoard, Bob Engles, Dave Kettell, Gary Bouchia, George Stevens, Ron Hurne, Rick Webb and Sol Kakaio.
Don was engaged to be married Saturday, June 29th to Terry Dee Matthews, poolside at Sara Hunt's home.
Don was a Marine and served in Vietnam. He was an employee of the Mercury News for 30 years. Don's greatest joy was spending time with his 4 grandchildren.
A Military Service will be held July 30, 2013 at 2PM open to the public at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery, 32053 McCabe Rd., Gustine, CA 95322-9749.
