Edward David Lopez, Jr., also known as "Eddy", 43 years young, of Redwood City, Ca, passed away in his apartment in the early morning on Thursday, October 10, 2013 in his sleep of congestive heart failure.
He was born on November 19, 1969 to Edward and Irma Lopez , also Redwood City residents who recently moved back to the area from Rocklin, Ca. Eddy is survived by his two sisters, Michelle Mendez (Lopez) and Andrea Angulo (Lopez) of Redwood City and their husbands Nacho Mendez and Chris Angulo. He was "Uncle Eddy" to Matthaus, Cameron, Enzo, and Cristiano Angulo. He is preceded in death by his grandparents Arthur and Gloria Lopez and Ambrosio and Tola Maldonado along with his uncles: Gary Lopez, Fred Lopez, Richard Lopez, and Luis Maldonado. He was the nephew to 17 uncles and aunts and has many, many cousins of which reside in the Bay Area.
Eddy went to grammar school at St. Pius Catholic School and graduated in 1987 from Junipero Serra High School in San Mateo, Ca. where he played football, basketball, and his favorite sport, baseball. He was notably recognized in all three sports as the most valuable player during his years at Serra. He went on to attended College of San Mateo and Cañada College in Redwood City where he studied and played collegiate level baseball. In 1990, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He was an active soldier at the onset of the Gulf War, Operation Desert Storm where he stayed for thirteen months. When he returned from the war, he completed his term at the El Toro Marine Corps Air Station in southern California.
Eddy stayed in the Orange County area where he married, became an insurance broker agent and owned Iron Eagle Insurance company. He played on traveling softball teams where his love for the sport continued. He was the proud father of three (3) children Gabriel age 14, Alex age 12, and Sophia age 10 whom reside in Yorba Linda, Ca.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Veterans Administration of Menlo Park, Ca. and Palo Alto, Ca. for the years of support and care they provided to their marine brother and our loved one.
