Ed passed away peacefully in his sleep the morning of November 29 at the age of 88. Ed is survived by his loving wife Elsie, children Bruce, Dennis, Susan and Allan, six grandchildren, two great grand children his sister Winfred and brother Anthony, and loving in-laws and many extended family members.
Ed was born in Duluth, Minnesota to Michael and Mary Spehar. Ed graduated from Denfield High School in Duluth, Class of 1946. Ed enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1946. Ed served aboard the Troopship USS General H. W. Buraer from 1946 to 1948, as a Fireman (FN). While serving in the Navy, Ed also was also skilled Golden Gloves Boxer.
Ed married the love of his life, and high school sweetheart, Elsie Spehar on July 8, 1950 in Duluth Minnesota. They were happily married for 66 years. Ed received his Apprenticeship as an Upholster in 1950 and a Machinist in 1955. Ed was also owner/operator of AA driving school.
Ed moved his family from Duluth to California in 1961. Ed and Elsie purchased the home in Campbell in 1962 where they lived and raised their family for the next 57 years.
Ed was hired by Lockheed Missiles and Space in 1961 as a Machinist and retired in 1988 after 18 years as a Manufacturing Manager in Various Machine Shops, spanning a 27-year career at Lockheed.
Ed loved his family and enjoyed being involved. He followed all of his children and grand children watching all their sports activities, from wrestling, baseball, football, swimming, softball, basketball, and soccer. Ed also coached little league and a girl's softball team. Ed loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and camping. Avid fan of SF Giants, 49ers, and SJ Sharks. After retiring Ed purchased a motorhome and traveled all over the United States and Canada. Ed was a founding member of the Traveling Knights, a Knights of Columbus RV Club. He was Wagon Master for the Roving Rockets a LMSC RV Club.
Ed was a member of St Lucy's Catholic Parish. He was usher there for over 50 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Bishop O'Dowd Council #3474, for 55 years. He was a 4th Degree Knight, and was also a Grand Knight for many years. Ed was a participating member of the Moose Club and American Legion.
Family and friends are invited to a vigil service at Darling and Fisher Memorial Chapel in Campbell on Thursday, 1/12/17 at 6pm. A service Mass will be held for Ed at St. Lucy's Parish in Campbell, Friday at 11am, a reception immediately following and funeral services will be held at Los Gatos Memorial Park in Los Gatos at 2 pm.
