Eleanor Mary Zarevich
Resident of Sunnyvale
Born Dec. 8, 1917, in a house in San Jose, Eleanor lived all 92 years of her life within 4 miles of her childhood home in Sunnyvale. Speaking Italian at home, she was the oldest and first of 5 children to attend school and learn English. A graduate of Fremont High School, she regularly attended class reunions with her sister. Her parents, Ernesto and Carmela Borello, were lifelong farmers in Sunnyvale.
After graduation from Heald College, she worked as a bookkeeper for Raines Chevrolet on El Camino. Eleanor met and married a Mountain View farmer, Pete Zarevich. They had reached 54 years of marriage at his passing in 2000. She kept the books, fed the workers and helped out with the day to day operations of the ranch until the early 1980's. She also volunteered as an auxiliary worker (pink lady) at El Camino Hospital for almost 4 decades. Her daughters, Diana Vannatta (and Ron, Auburn, CA) and Gail Broderick (and Pat, Mountain View, CA), will remember the importance her Italian heritage played in her life, and how a trip to Reno would cure all her ills; while her grandchildren (Brian, Greg, Angelyn, Jodie, Anna and JP) will remember annual trips to get new school clothes and mouth watering meals at her house.
Eleanor leaves behind two sisters, a brother, two daughters, six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
