I forgot to mention the one person who always surfaced in Franks' column, who might not appear...his barber. When Frank was providing the leadership we need so much at EET, he often sent us and the market messages which started wth..."..I was at my barber..." So many of us will miss him.

I worked with Frank on EE Times and lived near him in Huntington Bay. We shared some interesting and fun times. I was saddened to hear of his passing and pray for the family.

Frank and I worked closely at (then) Cahners Publishing. He was the best brand, marketing, content and audience development mind in the publishing world. We had some great times together. A fond memory of a great man.

I thoroughly enjoyed working for Frank in the early 90s at Cahners. He could be tough, but was a softie at heart. I'm sorry to learn that he's passed and that cancer was such a part of his retirement period. I'm sure he'll be missed and my condolences to you.

I knew Frank Burge only for a short time. My gray hairs are coming out and my memory is fading faster than I would like but there was that one incident with Frank I will never forget. There was a 'Moment of Arrogance' on my part - fortunately they are few and far between - and Frank took a deep breath, looked at me like a Father would at his wayward son (but in a nice way!) and set me straight. I walked away very humbled and thankful for that interaction. I only wish I had the opportunity to get to know him better and will miss him dearly.

Barbara, please accept my deepest sympathy for your loss.
I met Frank in 1978 and was a client working at National. I am grateful to have known him. Frank was more than a colleague and friend. He was our mentor and challenged and inspired our creativity. He taught us the art of communicating to engineers. He was a tremendous positive influence on our Marcom Community as a leading publisher and through the Ad Hoc Council, his research projects, his columns and newsletters. He knew his stuff, had a passion to mentor others and was a wonderful and generous person. I will miss him.

Frank wrote a column in EE Times about adoption maybe a dozen or more years ago when my wife & I were adopting our son. I emailed him to thank him for sharing what he & Barbara went through and how glad they were to have adopted their 3 kids. He wrote back with more encouraging words, and if memory serves, he again said "Life is beautiful indeed." Sunday my son will become an Eagle Scout, and in a small way I will again be grateful to Frank.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Franks family. He was a great guy and someone I always liked, admired and respected even though through the years we sometimes competed with each other. He will be missed by many of us who knew him.

I met Frank in 1984 at a trade show in Boston through my father Francis who told me Frank was the best publisher in the Electronics industry but even more importantly the best person in the industry. I had the good fortune to work with Frank at CMP in 2000. What struck me about Frank was how much he cared about people, his family, the people he worked with and all of the people who worked for our customers. He really cared about our industry and worked his entire career to raise the level of professionalism. I learned from Frank that you have to really love the work you do to be truly successful and you have to also respect and appreciate the people you work with. He will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to Barbara and his entire family.

Frank was the best example of prioritizing things that would help the industry over what might help a particular person or company. His ad-hoc councils were just one example of this. The Electronics industry has lost a true pioneer and legend.

RIP Frank - The first day I met you, you asked me what grammar school I went to and one day during a sales dinner you told me about your life in Chicago (my hometown and yours) and your wonderful wife and beautiful adopted children. You asked me if I knew the most important thing in life to be successful in anything and the answer was "Family - first, foremost and always. Success is nothing without someone to love and share it with." I'll miss you Frank especially these days as Family is "First, Foremost and always" the center of my life. As you once told me, "it's never too late" and you were right as I recently found out. You taught me a lot about work matters but I'll always remember that afternoon you talked to me about what matters in life. I think about it every day.

My family owes a huge debt of gratitude to Frank - his consistent fatherly mentoring is one of the major reasons why I chose the career path. Heck - you even bequeathed me a nickname - "Hyphen" - that continues to this day. Many thanks for all you have done.

I am lucky to have known Frank. I knew him in a professional capacity and one thing that marked him as special -- and a lesson for us all -- is that he always, always had is priorities right. What matters in life are family, friends, and personal relationships. The job is important but it's secondary. I'll cherish his warmth, his humor, his sparking joy for life.

Love you uncle Frank! Since our girls had two uncle Franks, they always called you uncle Santa Claus, because you reminded them of Santa. A Jolly Ol Soul who will be terribly missed. Thanks for the great stories you'd share.
