Frank Ziegel Obituary



Frank Joseph Zawieja Ziegel

Resident of Saratoga

Frank passed away October 25, 2010 in Saratoga at the age of 91. He was born to Polish immigrants June 5, 1919 in Hartford, Connecticut. He was raised in Baltimore and as a young man enlisted in the Army during World War II. He served as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division in Europe and was part of the D-Day and Battle of the Bulge campaigns. Following his return from the Army he moved to the Los Angeles area where he met his wife Doris, they were married in 1954. The family moved to Saratoga in 1964 where he retired from Lockheed Missiles and Space after 29 years in 1984.

Frank was a patriotic, loyal and immensely determined individual. His sense of principle, courage, exceptional intellect, vision and ideas left a significant impact on his children and grandchildren.

Frank was a devoted husband, father and an active member of the community. He was a Scoutmaster, PTA officer, Northwest Saratoga Homeowner Association president, Saratoga Ski Club president, member of the Lockheed Manager Club and U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.

Frank is survived by his daughter Pam Petersen-Lambert (of Fresno) and son in-law Tim Lambert. Son Michael Ziegel (of Saratoga) and daughter-in-law Sue Ziegel. Grandchildren Miles Petersen, Alexa and Haley Ziegel. He was preceded in death by his wife Doris and sisters Wanda, Anita, and Viola.

The family would like to thank the Alzheimer's Activity Center for their care of Frank from 2006-2008; Talia Manulevu for home care in 2008 and Hospice of the Valley. A special thanks to Virginia Devera and Michael Molina who cared for Frank in their group home from 2008 until his death. Their kindness and understanding will not be forgotten. Dad,
I will miss you so much! You always taught me to have strength, believe in what you do, be persistant and gave me the knowledge to be my own woman-independent and courageous! Thank you for my lessons in life and to all your wonderful friends who have been so supportive to you and to your family.
