George Kreamer Obituary

George W. Kreamer (Pete)

Resident of Saratoga

Born in Bellport, Long Island in 1917 George W. Kreamer (Pete) is survived by his wife "Dolly", four daughters, one son, eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Pete and Dolly met in NYC in the late 1930's where Dolly performed with the American Ballet Theatre. Forever in love, they were married in 1941 and would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this year.

Pete entered the Army Air Corps in 1941 and after training was assigned with the 352nd Bomb Sqdn, 301st Bomb Grp, 5th Wing, 15th Air Force, Foggia, Italy where he flew 35 combat missions as the pilot of a B-17. Discharged in 1945, Pete served in the reserves until 1951 when he was recalled to service. He was assigned to various posts of duty including the 12th Air Force Headquarters, the 4th Allied Tactical Air Force, and numerous postings within the Nuclear Weapons Operations Command. He participated in four Pacific nuclear test operations, served as Commander of King Salmon AFS, Commander of Grenier AFB and Satellite Tracking Station, and retired in 1974 as Director of Range Operations, Satellite Test Center in Sunnyvale, CA. Pete was awarded the Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal with 4 clusters, AF Commendation Medal with 2 clusters, 4 Distinguished unit ribbons and various campaign and service ribbons and Command Pilot and Master Missileman status.

Pete and Dolly settled in Saratoga, CA after his globetrotting with the military where he became very active in area service and local government issues. Pete was involved with "The Good Government Group" and the Saratoga Lions Club in which he served terms as president, secretary and treasurer. He was a "Blind Center Director" with the Lions for four years, and was honored as a "Melvin Jones Fellow". He was a driving force with Route 85 Task Force and served as its Treasurer.

Pete and Dolly have been long time members of the Saratoga Presbyterian Church where a memorial service will be held March 5th at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers a charitable contribution is welcomed.

Pete's surviving children include Bobbi and Russ Haskins, Judy and John Sauer, Heidi George, Gail and Mark Hoover and Bill and Jeanette Kreamer.

Dear Kreamer family,

...and we've lost yet another of the "Greatest Generation". I note his passing with great sorrow, and my heart aches for Dolly and his family. Godspeed, dear Pete. May you rest in peace.
