Glen Harter Obituary

Glenn Ashbrook Harter

Resident of San Mateo Co.

April 4, 1920-Sept. 6, 2010

Age 90. Mr. Glenn A. Harter passed away on Monday morning, September 6, 2010 in Burlingame, CA. A native of Castro Valley, CA, he was born to the late Guy and Cora Harter on April 4, 1920.

Glenn grew up in Berkeley, where his father and mother owned Harter's Furniture Store. A graduate from Berkeley High School in 1938. He attended College of the Pacific and was recruited by the FBI in 1941 where he served until 1978. Glenn had just received a 35 year membership certificate in the FBI retired agents association. He completed his law degree from George Washington University. Glenn was very active in the boating community. He served as Commodore in 1987 for Coyote Point Yacht Club, Commodore of PICYA in 1988 and President of RBOC, and he was a member of the International Order of Blue Gavel.

Glenn is survived by her daughter, Lynette Mary Harter-Breed and her husband, Russell S. Breed; a son Scott David Harter and his wife, Karen; his granddaughter, Heather Christine Jacobson and her husband, Tim; his grandson, Michael Patrick Harter and his wife, Sarah. He also leaves behind his brother, Eugene C. Harter and his wife Joan.

Glenn and his wife Mary Day were married on February 6, 1943 by Rev. Peter Marshall at the New York Ave. Presbyterian church in Washington DC. Dr. Marshall was later Chaplain of the Senate and subject of Catherine Marshall's book "A Man Called Peter" which was later made into a movie. Glen and Mary Day spent their last months together at the San Carlos Elms, where Mary Day peacefully preceded Glenn on the morning of August. 26, 2010. Mary Day called on Glenn to join her on the morning of September 6, 2010.

Private goodbye services will be held at a later date.
