Harold Basinger Obituary

Harold "Hal" Basinger

Resident of Felton

78, died of leukemia on December, 9, 2010, at the VA Hospice in Palo Alto, CA. Hal was born August 28, 1932, in East St Louis, IL, the son of Eva and Russ Basinger. He grew up in Santa Cruz, graduating from Santa Cruz High School. After serving with the Marine Corps in Korea where he was awarded two Purple Hearts, Hal went to college at San Jose State and then to work in management for various electronic companies, including FMC, Hewlett Packard, and Meridian Data. He and his first wife Laura lived in Felton with their three children. Laura Basinger died in 1987. Their son, Brian, died in 1989.

Hal married his wife, Charlotte Basinger, in 1988 and thoroughly enjoyed traveling with her throughout the US and Europe, and delighted in entertaining friends and family at his and Charlotte's Felton home.

Hal is survived by his wife Charlotte, his daughter Cheryl Basinger of Felton, his son and daughter-in-law Todd and Darlene Basinger of Boulder Creek, his grandson Thomas Basinger of Boulder Creek, stepson and daughter-in-law Paul Bahr and Dr. Catherine Hedden and their daughters, Elizabeth and Sharon, of Scotts Valley, a brother David Basinger of Kona, HI, and a sister Marilyn Tara of Aptos, as well as numerous nieces and nephew.

Wonderfully kind and generous, with a terrific sense of humor, Hal loved and was loved by many people and greatly enjoyed being a grandparent.

Military Honors will be bestowed at graveside services at Felton Cemetery, Felton-Empire Road on Friday, August 26, 2011.

Contributions may be made to the Palo Alto VA Hospice, 3801 Miranda Avenue, Palo Alto, CA or to your local Leukemia Society.

I recently heard about Hal and It was hard to hear about his passing especially at such a young age. Cheryl the last time I saw you was for
your mother's funeral and to hear you lost a brother too. My deepest
condolences - I too have lost a brother and it's hard to lose a sibling much
less both your parents. I worked for you dad many happy years - Hazel Eckhardt

To Cheryl, and the entire Basinger family, my heart felt sympathy goes out to all of you. There are no words that can truly comfort, but knowing that he had a wonderful life and made a lasting impression on so many people should provide some comfort.
