Resident of Pacifica
Former Pacifica resident, Helen Parkinson, 90, passed away September 25, 2010, at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in South San Francisco.
Helen was born in San Francisco, July 23, 1920, to May and Victor Rosa. She had one older brother, Victor, Jr. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-six years, Roy and survived by her son, Tom and a granddaughter who lives in Pennsylvania.
Mrs. Parkinson grew up in San Francisco, living on Courtland Avenue in the Bernal Heights neighborhood. She attended St. Kevin's Catholic Church and graduated from St. Paul's in 1937. After living in San Francisco for a number of years, the Parkinson family made a big change, moving to a small rural town in Eastern Oregon. Living on five acres of land, a cow, chickens, fruit trees and a huge garden, the "city folks" made an amazing adjustment to a totally different way of living. However, after five years, they moved back to San Francisco, then later to South San Francisco.
Helen took college courses and worked as a nursery school teacher for many years. She loved children very much. In the early 70's Helen and Roy moved to the ValleMar district of Pacifica where they lived for the remainder of their years. Helen later retired from teaching, joined the Fuchsia Society. She loved plants and maintained a beautiful garden for years. When her mother's health began to decline, she moved her mother in and cared for her for a number of years.
Helen was a very friendly and likable person. Very helpful to anyone in need, and was highly esteemed by her neighbors.
Visitation will be held Thursday, September 30, from 1:00p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Chapel by the Sea, 801 Oceana Blvd., Pacifica, CA 650 355-3411. A rosary will be said at 7:00 p.m. A mass will be held Friday, October 1, at 11:00 a.m., at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 901 Oceana Blvd., Pacifica, CA, 650 355-2593. Burial will follow the mass and will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, 1500 Old Mission Road, Colma, CA. CHAPEL BY THE SEA FUNERAL HOME
