Herbert Ainsworth, RADM, USN, Ret

Resident of Los Altos
RADM Ainsworth passed away peacefully at his home Los Altos on Dec 23, 2012. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Corinne van Ackere. He was married to Anne Kacy who predeceased him in 1974 and they had four children, Bob (Konne), Patty, Lynne (Larry) Page and Kacy; he also has a son, Chris. He was "Poppa" to five grandsons: Damien, Justin, Carson, Brady, Connor, and two great-grandsons, Lucas and Sawyer.
Born in San Francisco he attended the U.S. Naval Academy, was commissioned in 1943 and won his Naval Aviator wings in 1945. His 36-year Navy career took him all over the world and spanned three wars. He assumed command as Commander, Fleet Air Wings Pacific Fleet/Fleet Air Moffett Field in 1972 until his retirement in 1974. During his career, he received numerous awards.
In retirement, he taught at Foothill and DeAnza colleges and was an avid tennis player, golfer, and continued his love of travel. He cherished his time with his family who adored him. He will be remembered as a strong, loving, gentle man who knew no bounds to his imagination, knowledge and passion for life.
A celebration of Herbert Ainsworth's life will be held at the Moffett Field Chapel, on Moffett Field in Mountain View at 2:00 on Saturday, February 2, 2013. Driver's license is required to access the base.

Herb was such a wonderful man, and we are honored to call him our friend. We will always remember his humor, his smile , the twinkle in his eye and his generosity of spirit. Our deepest condolences to his beautiful family at this very difficult time.
