J. McCahan Obituary

J. Bruce McCahan

Resident of La Selva Beach

Passed away peacefully at home on September 21, 2010 at the age of 78 after a long battle with Parkinson's disease.

Bruce was a devoted family man and is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Roselyn McCahan, and his four children, Lori Brickley, Randy McCahan, Jeff McCahan and Jennifer Ford. He was the proud grandfather of ten children, Aubrie Ford, Sydney McCahan, Kelsea Ford, Connor McCahan, Ryan McCahan, Shane Smith, Ryan Smith, Kaitlin McCahan, Benjamin Brickley and Briana Brickley.

Bruce was a graduate of San Jose State College and a certified public accountant. He started his own firm in 1968 which grew to become the firm of McCahan, Helfrick, Thiercof and Butera. Nearly thirty years ago, Bruce pioneered the field of forensic accounting, spending the last twenty years of his career working in that specialized field before his retirement in 1998.

Bruce raised and flew racing pigeons since he was a student at Santa Clara High School in the late forties, a hobby which he pursued his entire life. He had great success with his flyers, winning races all over the United States and abroad.

Bruce will be missed by family and friends who depended upon him for his kindness, humor and generosity. A memorial celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, October 2, 2010 at 1:00 pm at La Selva Beach Community Church, 26 Florido Avenue, La Selva Beach.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be sent to Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Cruz County, 800 Ohlone Parkway, Watsonville 95076-7005.

Dear Aunt Roselyn: Even though I am still mourning the loss of my father, I want to express my sincere regrets for the loss you are now suffering. He was a very nice person and I admired his sense of humor. I am very sorry for your loss and wish you and your family all the best in this most difficult time. Sincerely Elaine Lillian Durand (Sawyer).

Dear Roselyn, Very sad to read of Bruce's death. It was a pleasure to know him as a friend and businessman. I did enjoy our regular lunches at Three Flames and remember the wonderful retirement party. Thinking of you and the family.
