James Lundy Obituary

James M. Lundy

Resident of Hillsborough

Passed away peacefully in Burlingame on November 28, 2010. Born February 6, 1920 in Tulsa, OK, Jim attended Tulsa High and graduated at the head of his class in academics and athletics. At that time Tulsa High was the second largest high school in the nation. He attended Stanford University where he graduated with a BA degree and was undefeated in varsity tennis doubles with his partner Sid Terry. During WWII he served in the Pacific Theater as a Junior Grade Lieutenant in the Navy. After his service he returned to Stanford where he received his MBA. In 1948 he joined Macy's San Francisco and for the next 22 years held a variety of positions in the company ultimately becoming the West Coast President. It was during his time at Macy's that Jim met and married June Avona "Cindy" Close who predeceased him. Jim continued his retail career by joining Mervyn's Department Stores in 1971 and remained there until retiring in 1981. Jim had many interests including travel, reading, attending the Symphony, following the stock market and bridge.

He will be sadly missed by his sons James and Robert, their wives Sonia and Connie, granddaughters Nathalie and Adrienne, and his dear friend Beverly.
