James Nevitt Obituary

James A. Nevitt

Resident of Oakland

Oakland glass artist, died suddenly on October 9th, 2010 at age 61. Born in Los Angeles, Jim grew up in Milpitas with his twin Tony, now deceased, and his siblings JoDee and Rick. A natural athlete, he was a star swimmer and fierce competitor in water polo at Samuel Ayer High School, and studied art at San Jose City College. Jim was an accomplished stained glass artist in the 1970s and then worked as a manufacturing manager in several Silicon Valley companies, and in desktop publishing in San Jose and Santa Cruz before returning to his passion for making art eight years ago. His fused glass studio was located first in Aptos, and then Berkeley and Oakland. Jim was an active member of artist associations and was represented in galleries, online and at tradeshows.

He is survived by the loves of his life, his wife Katie and his daughter Lisa of Campbell. He will be missed by his grandson Zachary and Zach's parents Jessica and Michael along with extended family members, friends and colleagues.

There will be a "Celebration of Life" dinner event on October 24th at Mariani's of Santa Clara in lieu of a funeral.
