Jane Auckenthaler Obituary

Jane S. Auckenthaler

Resident of San Mateo

On January 5, 2011, Jane Spieker Auckenthaler, long time Peninsula resident, passed away in San Mateo at the age of 90 after a brief illness. She was born and raised in San Francisco by her parents, J. Warren and Edith Rucker Spieker and attended the Convent of the Sacred Heart in San Francisco and the French School in New York.

Her four children survive her: Bonnie (Jeff) Bertelsen, Bruce (Katherine) McWhorter, Cindy (Ken) Mela and Laurie (Jim) Kehl and she leaves behind ten grandchildren and a great granddaughter, all of whom she adored. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Joseph Gilbert Auckenthaler, and her brother and sister-in-law, Warren and June Spieker. Her sister, Suzanne Beaver survives her. She also leaves behind several stepchildren and step grandchildren plus many nieces and nephews.

Jane skied and played tennis well into her eighties and she loved to play bridge until her recent illness. She volunteered at the Blood Center of the Pacific (formerly the Peninsula Memorial Blood Bank) for fifty-two years and was a member of the Burlingame Country Club. She lived a very full life and will be greatly missed but will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.

A Rosary will be recited at Crosby-N. Gray & Company, Funeral Directors, 2 Park Road, Burlingame on Wednesday evening, January 12, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, January 13, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Burlingame with a reception immediately following at the Stratford "Room With a View," 601 Laurel Avenue, San Mateo. Burial will be private at Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma.

Donations in her memory may be made to San Diego Mission Valley YMCA, 5505 Friars Road, San Diego, CA 92110, Attention: Leslie Kehl, PRYDE Program Director.

TO THE AUCKENTHALER FAMILY, SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS, MAY GOD GIVE YOU HIS LOVE, PEACE, AND STRENGTH IN THIS TIME OF SORROW. SHE IS WITH GOD NOW, AND MOVING INTO HER NEW HOME. Dear Bonnie and Suzanne, my heart goes out to you. Jane was my favorite relation and her spirit was magnificent. Having injured myself, I am unable to attend the service, and will be sending loving thoughts and prayers to you all, and my deepest condolences at this loss.
