John Mendez Obituary

John Andrew Mendez

Resident of Santa Clara

Nov. 10, 1955-Nov. 7, 2010

John passed away peacefully on Sunday surrounded by family.

John was born in Hanford, CA to Carmen and the late Henry Mendez. For most of his life he lived in Santa Clara where he attended Adrian Wilcox High School. For most of his career he worked as a custodian for Santa Clara Unified School District. The majority of that time he worked at Millikin Elementary where he was loved and cherished by the staff and children. Melba Rhodes-Stanford, Principal of Millikin Elementary, quoted author James Barrie when remembering John "Always be a little kinder than necessary". She said John lived his entire life that way. John enjoyed cooking and preparing special luncheons for the teachers.

John is survived by his mother, Carmen Mendez; siblings Henry Mendez Jr. (Nora), Yolanda Walker (Bill), Loretta Axberg (Bob) and Mark Mendez (Irene); nieces & nephews David and Amanda Axberg, Kirsten Axberg, Steven Axberg, Mark Mendez, Nicolas Mendez & Helena Mendez. His generous and loving spirit will be missed by all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held at the Lima Family Mortuary in Santa Clara on November 13, 2010 to be followed by a reception. The family respectfully requests that donations be made in John's memory to the American Diabetes Association.

John was an angel of this Earth. We will miss his kindness, caring, generosity, and positive outlook on life. No matter what he was dealing with, he always found the bright spot, and continued to look to the Lord for guidance. He touched so many lives. He will be sorely missed by the many who loved him. We love you, John.
