Joseph Leo Carney
Resident of San Jose
Joseph Leo Carney passed away on Friday, October 1 with his loving friends and family by his side. Joe was born November 9, 1924 in Lawrence, Massachusetts. He graduated from Lawrence High School in 1942 and enlisted in the Navy. He served in both the Pacific and European Theaters during WWII.
Joe became a police officer in 1950 and retired in 1975, moving to San Jose with his wife Claire (Butterworth) and daughter Colleen. He then worked as a guard at Intel in Santa Clara. Joe was a life member of the San Jose Elks Lodge 522.
Joe was the son of Emma T. (Devlin) and James Carney. He was predeceased by his wife Claire, and his daughter Colleen Jensen. He is survived by his sons David Carney of Maine; Paul Carney of Florida; Neil Carney and his wife Marybeth of Salem, New Hampshire; as well as eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by very special friends Olive Allen, and Kerry and Stacey Harris of Gilroy.
Joe was a happy and caring man who was loved and will be deeply missed by his friends and family.
Memorial Service Friday, October 8, 2010 at 10:00 am. South Valley Community Church, 8095 Kelton Drive Gilroy, CA 95020.

We just got informed that our son and girlfriend are having a baby in June. If it is a girl her name will be Colleen Rose Carney. Our son has forn memories of his aunt Colleen and she was also his God Mother.

Please accept my deepest condolonces. It is so good that Mr. Carney had the opportunity to live to that age because the scriptures say that our days are 70 and if by special mightiness they are 80 - Psalm 90:10 I am sure that you have so many fond memories that will coomfort you and bring you joy.

I met Joe when I returned to San Jose in 1994. His locker was three down from mine in the Elk's locker room. Joe always had a smile on his face, a joke to tell and enjoyed life. He often spoke about the Boston Red Sox and his children. Joe will be missed.
