Julia Fuqua Obituary

Julia Evelyn Fuqua

Nov. 20, 1909 ~ Dec. 18, 2010 Resident of Los Gatos

Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and dear friend, Julia Evelyn Fuqua, died peacefully on December 18, 2010. She lived a long healthy life of 101 years. Julia was born on November 20, 1909 in Denver, Colorado to immigrant parents, Marianne & Bernard Campiglia. There were seven girls and one boy in her family. They moved to Santa Monica, CA in the 1920's and Julia attended Santa Monica High School. After graduation, Julia worked in retail sales in Santa Monica at Henshey's Department Store and became the buyer of the cosmetics department until her retirement in 1978.

Her father was a music teacher so music was an important part of Julia's life. She enjoyed playing the banjo and ukulele. As a child, she learned ballet and, as a young adult, she danced to big band music. It was on a boat trip to Catalina to dance at the Avalon Casino that she met her husband, James Fuqua.

Julia moved to Los Gatos, CA. after her retirement to be near to her son and daughter and her grandchildren. To know Julia was to love her for her devotion to God, family and friends and for her kind heart and gentle nature. She will remain a living presence much more than a memory to all whose lives she touched.

Julia was preceded in death by her husband who died in 1967. She is survived by her son, James (Renee) Fuqua of Pebble Beach, CA and her daughter, Pamela Fuqua of San Jose, CA; her grandchildren, Anne Ajlouni, Beth Parks, Joseph and Peter Fuqua and Jennifer and Julie Evarkiou; her 13 great-grandchildren and her sister, Anita Garner of Rockville, Maryland.

A rosary and a funeral mass for the immediate family has been celebrated at Carmel Mission Basilica in Carmel, CA. Please visit www.the paulmortuary.com to sign Julia's guest book.
