Katherine Gariepy Obituary

Katherine Mary (Katric) Gariepy

Resident of San Jose

Was born May 10, 1961, in San Jose, California. She passed away unexpectedly Saturday, October 15th. Fifty years was not long enough for the dash in between. Never having her own children, Kathy's child was her dog Missy, who recently passed away.

Though she did travel outside of California, she always came back to San Jose. Family came first. If family needed something fixed, Kathy was there. She was the ever skilled "handywoman"! There was not a task she could not handle, and always loved to tackle!

In her teens, Kathy was an outstanding softball player and as an adult continued to play ball on recreational teams. She could hit the ball as far as any guy! Kathy never thought about limits in life. If it was possible, she could do it.

Though Kathy did not always have it easy in life, her charity was endless. Throughout her life she dedicated time at local homeless shelters and food banks, endlessly. She always put others before herself. It was not unusual for a family member to open their front door and find a bag of goodies waiting for you. Packages would arrive in the mail for her niece and nephews of items that would make them smile. Her heart held no boundaries. Her generosity spilt over.

She felt such pride when speaking of her close by nephews, Ryan, Thomas and Alec Katric, who is now attending ASU. Her southern California nephew John and niece Lauren Barry's pictures were hung in her room as a reminder of how important family was to her. This was her lifeline.

She will be kept alive in the memories of her family that is still here, brother Bill Katric and his significant other Nannette Hardy, brother Scott Katric and his wife Kathy and their three son's, sister Kelly Barry and husband John Barry and niece and nephew, many relatives on the Massey/Hart side and most important, her mother Charlotte Massey. Kathy will be joining her father in heaven, Tharon Massey.

For family and close friends, a celebration of her life, in her fashion, as she would like one heck of a party, will be held Saturday, October 22nd at 2:00pm in San Jose, for details of location, please contact her brother Scott at 408-210-2397.

Yes, Family was everything to Kathy. I use to attend West Valley College with her. She was such a joy to be around. She loved to talk and sometimes in class we'd get that look.. Kathy was such an intelligent woman, who also made the Dean's List, which I was proud to hear about. Kathy was kind to everyone and willing to help when I was struggling in my medical terminology class. She even offered to tutor me =) Kathy you will be dearly missed.

To Kathy's Family: My Condolences to you all. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.. God Bless

Kathy will greatly be missed. I use to work in the Food Bank with her, she always kept me laughing, and a smile in my heart. I will miss receiving her inspirational e-mails. My prayers are with all of you that knew her.
