Kathy Moroney Obituary

Kathy O'Rourke

Moroney

Resident of San Carlos, CA

Kathy passed away peacefully from cancer at her home on November 5, 2010 while surrounded by her husband, four children, and ten grandchildren. She was born to the late Thomas and Alice O'Rourke in Tacoma, Washington on March 18, 1945. Kathy attended Sacred Heart elementary school and St. Leo's High School in Tacoma, class of 1963. She graduated and obtained a degree in education from Seattle University, class of 1967. After teaching for a year in Seattle, Kathy married Carl Moroney on June 29, 1968. After her husband's service in the U.S. Marine Corps, the couple settled in San Carlos, California. They had five children: Kara, Brett, Courtney, Katie and Kelly. They lost Kelly to a heart condition when she was still an infant.

After teaching in Seattle and Fallbrook, Ca. Kathy became a full time homemaker and directed her energy into activities at her childrens' schools and charitable organizations. She coached soccer for several seasons and was the Athletic Director at Notre Dame Elementary School. She was the Chairperson for the most successful auction at Serra High School up to that point in time. She loved coaching and teaching children and was active in all school parent organization's and volunteer groups.

Kathy was also an accomplished seamstress and knitter and loved playing golf, skiing and playing bridge with her many friends. She was also an avid traveler with both family and friends.

Kathy adored visiting Lake Tahoe and enjoyed many summers with the family at their place in Incline Village as well as skiing in the winter. Most recently she joined the Incline Village Golf Club where she met many wonderful new friends.

In addition to her husband and four living children Kathy is survived by ten grandchildren: Rory and Patrick McGinty, Jackson, Lily and Braden Moroney, Liam, Kevin and Ronan Corkery, and Declan and Ashby Hand. To them she was "Jammy" or "Mimi" and she was devoted to all of them as well as their parents. She is also survived by her dear daughter-in-law, Linda Moroney, and sons-in-law Scott McGinty, Trevor Corkery and Mat Hand. She loved all of them as if they were her own. Additionally she is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and brothers and sisters-in-law.

Kathy's gorgeous blue eyes and radiant smile will be etched in our memories forever.

A memorial Mass in celebration of her life will be held at St. Catherine's Church in Burlingame on Friday, November 12, 2010 at 1:30 pm. There will be a reception at the Peninsula Golf and Country Club immediately following the services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Samaritan House of San Mateo or St. Vincent de Paul of San Mateo.

Dear Carl and Family, I did not know Cathy well, but I saw her at many social functions for Clapp, Moroney. She was a dear, sweet, pleasant person and I always enjoyed talking with her. She always had a smile. She went out of her way to talk to everyone who was a part of the office during the 13 years I was employed there. My sympathies go out to all of you. Jan Hollenbach

Dear Carl and Family: Twinkling eyes, warm and welcoming smile, kindness extraordinaire, and a lot of caring are what I will always remember about Kathy. She was always there to lend a hand or listen carefully. While we didn't see each other often, when we did, it was as if we had just talked yesterday. I loved hearing her share something about her family...her smile and glowing eyes and that special chuckle always accompanied her story. How proud she was of all of you! I remember how much fun we had working together on that Serra Auction! I will miss running in to Kathy, catching up and getting that feeling of warmth from visiting with a special friend. My prayers are with you all. Diane Masetti

Dear Moroney Family,
It has been many years since we all attended school together at Notre Dame. I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your Mother. She was a great lady who did a lot for others. We are thinking of you all at this difficult time.
