Kenneth Ray Gurley, 80, of Belmont, California passed away on May 31, 2013 from congestive heart failure.
He was born on October 16, 1932 in Lightning Ridge, Oklahoma to Joseph Samuel and Mary Alice (Oliver) Gurley. Kenneth graduated in 1951 from Fitzhugh High School in OK. After high school he joined the U.S. Navy and served four years in active duty and four years in active reserves. In 1960, he and his wife, Ruth, moved to Belmont, CA.
Kenneth joined the Belmont Fire Department in 1960 and held various positions, including Battalion Chief and Fire Inspector. After 23 years with Belmont Fire /South County Fire Department, he retired. A year later, he began his second career of over 15 years in the security field, working for Woodlake Apartments in San Mateo, CA and College of Notre Dame in Belmont, CA. In addition, Ken spent five years coaching girls' softball with the Belmont Bobby Sox Softball Association.
In addition to his parents, Kenneth was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth (married 48 years), as well as two sisters, Sylvia Breeden and Mary Ellen Williams and one brother, Joseph Clifford Gurley. He is survived by: two sisters, Allene Cobb of Ada, OK and Christine Lewis of Edmond, OK; five brothers, Elbert Gurley of Quincy,
Washington, Sam Gurley, Wendell Gurley (Treva June) and Floyd Gurley (Pat) of Ada, OK and Lloyd Gurley (Mary) of Sulphur, OK. Kenneth was the loving father of two children, Ken D. Gurley (Carolynne Born) of Pittsburg, CA and Diana DaBaldo (John) of San Carlos, CA. He was also the proud grandfather of Gina and Stacey DaBaldo.
