Leng Kong Obituary

Leng Jung Kong

Resident of Cupertino

May 15, 1915-Aug. 27, 2010

Passed away peacefully on August 27, 2010 at age 95. She will be deeply missed for her love, indomitable strength, intelligence and profound influence in her family and friends' lives. Leng is preceded in death by her husband, Wong Share Kong, after sixty five years of a fulfilling and fruitful marriage. Together, they built several successful retail businesses, raised a loving, expanded family and valued the many dear friends and clients throughout their amazing life.

Leng was the oldest of seven children to Jung Yung Sung and Chan Kwai Gee. She was born in Oakland, CA. In 1935, she married Wong Share and together, they built the family business, a local grocery store, restaurant and farm in El Centro for 30 years. In the 1960's, they settled in Saratoga and opened up the valley's first European and Oriental fine arts store, the Home Boutique, in San Jose for seventeen years. They adopted and raised two fine sons and later, retired in Folsom, CA.

Leng was a gifted, talented and astute business woman. She was active in many community and civic groups in El Centro and Saratoga. Leng shared her love of fine art, gemology and Chinese antiquities expertise. She is best known for her winning bridge (highest master rank) and mah jong club play, numerous baking competition awards and cooking demonstration on the Steve Allen TV show in 1969. She shared her love of food with memorable parties in their Saratoga home and family banquets. Leng loved horseback riding, painting and travelling the world with her husband.

Leng will be fondly remembered by her family, Drs. Raymond and Noriko Gladys Kong; Wayne Kong and Judy Kaneko; and her beloved granddaughters Mari, Rachel, Emi and Lauren. She leaves behind two brothers, Lup Jung (Delaware) and Daniel Jung (San Francisco), her godson Alan Chau and dearest nieces and nephews.

A private family memorial service will be held in San Diego. Remembrances may be made to your favorite charity.

We think fondly of all our pass visits to their home in Folsom and all the shared lunches, and of course the wonderful aged wines they shared with us. We missed joking around with both of them whenever we traveled up north on our golf trips. They will lovingly remembered.....Frank and May Lum (Saratoga)

Leng and Wayne became very dear friends when we both lived in Saratoga. They were very kind to our children. We learned a great deal about "instant antiques" from Leng. She started us on our collection of Lalique Year plates. We had many wonderful meals at their home.

Leng and Wayne were both very kind, caring and generous people.

We send our deepest condolences to their family.

Sincerely,
Peggy and Terry Kelly

I will always remember the kindness of Mr. and Mrs. Kong to me when they gave me my very first job at Home Boutique wrapping gifts.
I have never forgotten their patience with me as I endeavored to use the exact amount of tissue on each treasure. Not quite mastering the art of gift wrapping, however, they found other little duties to keep me busy.
As a young person then, it meant so much and gave me the confidence to go on to what would be the next steps in my life.
I think of your parents fondly and send my sincere condolences on the loss of your mother.
