Lillian Allan
April 3, 1937 - November 11, 2016
Salem, Oregon
Lillian A. Allan, 79, of Salem passed on November 11, 2016. She was born in Chicago, the eldest of 7 children born to Clarence and Alice (Moomau) Thompson. The Thompson family moved to Markham, Illinois where Lillian graduated from Bremen High School in 1955 and went on to attend Nursing school at the University of Indiana in Terre Haute where she met her husband George Allan.
Lillian married George Allan in Markham, Illinois in July of 1958. She left college to start a family a year later. Together they have four grown children and eight grandchildren. They were divorced in 1988. Lillian later married Roy Tanaka (1999 - 2001) then Duane Coyne (2008 - 2014)
The Allan family moved to Campbell in 1964. Lillian was a dedicated wife and mother and spent much of her free time as both a Girl Scout volunteer and Cub Scout Den mother. She was a School Room mother in the Moreland schools that the children attended and a softball team manager/board member for the Campbell Bobby Sox.
Lillian returned to her nursing education in 1972, graduating with a B.S. in Nursing from San Jose State's School of Nursing in 1975, followed by an M.S. with Honors in 1984, becoming a Nurse Practitioner with an emphasis in Public Healthcare and Gerontology.
Lillian was employed by Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Santa Clara since 1975, first in ICU/CCU then in the newly created "Home Care and Hospice" department: A division created to allow gravely ill people to receive healthcare services at home. Lillian was one of the first healthcare providers in The Silicon Valley to care for Aids patients during those early days, a time when many other providers refused to care for them. For over 15 years, Lillian's passion for her job and her devotion towards patient care helped countless Bay Area families approach death with dignity.
Lillian retired from Kaiser-Permanente in 2001 and moved to Salem, Oregon where she resided until her death.
Lillian was an active member of the Beta Sigma Phi women's social Sorority and had been looking forward to receiving her 50-year participation pin this April 2017.
Lillian leaves behind four children: Jane (Salem, OR); George (Yelm, WA); Jacqueline (Los Gatos, CA); and Joyce (Albany, OR). She also leaves her mother Alice (Port St. Lucie, FL), three sisters, two brothers and eight grandchildren.
A memorial service was held on Nov 19, 2016. She is laid to rest at the Gethsemani Catholic Cemetery in Happy Valley, Oregon. Memorial gifts in Mrs. Allan's memory can be made to Willamette Valley Hospice, 1015 3rd St. NW Salem, OR (503) 588-3600
