Lorene Winkleby Obituary

Lorene Frances Winkleby

Resident of Los Altos

Born in Missouri on August 26, 1910, Lorene died peacefully after a brief illness at her home at Bridgepoint Senior Living Community on October 14, 2010. She left Missouri after a short teaching career and moved to San Diego, where she met her husband, Lloyd Winkleby, Jr. They raised two daughters in Vista and Sacramento, CA until they retired to Medford, OR.

She is survived by her loving daughters, Diane of Cambridge, UK, and Marilyn of Mountain View as well as her son-in-law Michael Fischetti; grandchildren Desirae, Christopher, and Diana; and three generations of nieces and nephews. Her husband and granddaughter Juanita Varela predeceased her.

Lorene will be remembered for her devotion to her family, large number of friends, and abundant kindness and willingness to help others. Her life was joyfully celebrated in August at two 100th birthday parties, which she enjoyed greatly.

Lorene's family extends heartfelt thanks for loving care by Leslie Gerwin, Peggy and Claudia from Home Instead Senior Care, the staff at Bridgepoint, and caregivers from Pathways Hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations in Lorene's name to the Juanita Varela Scholarship Fund may be sent to Cusimano Mortuary, 96 W. El Camino Real, Mountain View, CA 94040. A private memorial service will be held.

Dear Marilyn, Diane, and Mike,
What a wonderful mom you had. I will always remember her-- bright and cheerful--ready for a visitor at the back door of BridgePoint. I still imagine her and my mother Beth sitting by the big oak listening to the waterfall. Lorene had a great love of family and keeping connections--an inspiration to us all. Love, Deveda

Diane, Marilyn and Mike,
Lorene was an amazing person, may the many years of fond memories comfort you during this time of sadness. Holidays/birthdays will never be the same without receiving cards and notes from her. She was truly a special lady.
Love,
Blake
