Dec. 18, 1936-June 19, 2012
Resident of Belmont
Luther Gentry III passed away peacefully on June 19th, 2012. He was born in Roxboro, North Carolina on December 18th, 1936. He is survived by his 3 children David Brian Gentry, Luther Gentry IV, and Richard Wallace Gentry. He was a wonderful Grandfather to Robert, Katarina, Nicholas, Jerelyn, and Jennie Gentry.
He graduated from Menlo Atherton High School in June 1954 and later that year he joined the Marine Corps where he served as a radar technician until October 1957 where he received an honorable discharge as a sergeant.
He started his career at Eimac in San Bruno processing vacuum tubes. Eimac eventually merged with Varian Corporation where Luther worked until retirement on December 31st, 1991.
Luther was first married to Jere Jayne Wallace from August 1958 to August 1981. Luther was later married to Alexia Vanides from November 1985 until her death in January of 2011. We believe they are now reunited for eternity.
Luther spent his retirement years rebuilding antique cars and touring the country with Alexia. They entered, and on most occasions received awards at the car shows. Luther stayed active in all of his Children's and Grandchildren's lives until a week before he passed.
Services will be held at the San Carlos First Baptist Church on July 7th at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Guide Dogs for the Blind, P.O. Box 3950, San Rafael, CA 94912, www.guidedogs .com Friends may sign the guestbook at
