Madeline Moitozo Rose|
Jan 25, 1917 - Nov 24, 2012
Resident of Saratoga
Madeline Marie Moitozo Rose lived a full, happy 95 years of life that ended on November 24, 2012, with her family surrounding her. Madeline was born in San Leandro, CA, to Portuguese immigrants Manuel and Isabel Moitozo on January 25, 1917. Soon her family moved to San Jose where they lived on their dairy and pear orchard on North First Street. She attended Midway School, a one-room schoolhouse, Santa Clara High School, and Heald Business College.
Madeline met Manuel Rose at the IES Portuguese Hall and they were married on October 1,1939, at Five Wounds Church in San Jose. They moved to San Francisco, then Palo Alto, and settled in Santa Clara where they raised their four children on their dairy on Lawrence Road. In the early 70's, Madeline and Manuel moved to Saratoga where she would spend the rest of her life surrounded by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends.
Madeline was a volunteer for the San Jose Hospital Auxiliary for over 20 years. She loved to walk around the park by her home, meet family and friends for lunch at Khanh's Vietnamese restaurant, drive over to the coast, and hear about what her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were doing.
Madeline was an extremely strong, independent woman who was a model to all that knew and loved her. In her final years she was cared for by her family and caretakers Neo, Manni, and Adele. More than anything, Madeline loved to be surrounded by her family, which she was, as her spirit left this earth.
Madeline was preceeded in death by her husband, Manuel Rose, her parents, Manuel and Isabel Moitozo, and her brothers, Edward, Manuel, and Anthony Moitozo. She is survived by her loving children Diane Dorsa, Richard (Valerie) Rose, Ronald Rose, and James (Robin) Rose; grandchildren Maureen, Michael (Elizabeth), Patrick, Renee, Tanya (Jeffrey), Matthew (Raquel), Alexia (James), Abby, Anna, Nicholas, Katherine, Max, Jack, Isabella, and James; great grandchildren Samantha, Sophia, Colton, Wade, Nathan, Aramae, Adam, and Madeline; sister-in-laws Alice and Jonnie Moitozo; and numerous nieces and nephews as well as cousins Hank Matoza, Marie Merriman, and Rosalie Pedro.
A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, December 1, 2012, at 10:00 A.M. at Church of the Ascension, 12033 Miller Ave., Saratoga, CA 95070.
