Marianne Light Obituary

Marianne Swanson Light

Resident of Del Mar

Mar 18, 1934-Sept. 16, 2010

Marianne passed away peacefully in La Jolla, CA, due to complications from a lung disease, following a long battle with leukemia. The daughter of Paul and Dorothy Swanson was born in San Jose and graduated from Los Gatos HS. She earned a BS in Child Development and a Teaching Certificate from UC Berkeley in 1955. While at CAL, she met Tom Light, whom she married in Saratoga in 1956. She taught school in Milwaukee WI and in the San Diego area. A resident of Del Mar since 1973, she was a past-President of AAUW, also active in garden, horticulture & investment clubs, and an active volunteer. She loved travel, spending time with her grandchildren and her beautiful garden.

She is survived by her husband Tom of Del Mar, daughter Alison King of San Diego, son Brian Light of Sudbury, MA, 5 grandchildren and her brother Robert Swanson of Saratoga.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Solana Beach Presbyterian Church on Friday, October 22nd at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society at http://www.leukemia-lymphoma.org or to the Hospice of your choice.

My sincerest sympathy to Tom and the family. I only met Marianne a couple of times but have known Tom for quite a few years. This will be a difficult time (my husband passed away four years ago) but things will get better. Remember all the good times, it helps.
