Matthew Ashby Obituary

Matthew A. Ashby

Resident of Coulterville, CA

Passed away peacefully from liver disease in Modesto, CA on Thurs., Aug. 19, 2010 at the age of 45. Matt was born and raised in Cupertino. He graduated from Lynbrook High School in 1983 and DeAnza College with a degree in Automotive Technology in 1985. He was an Automotive Service Manager at Fortes Auto Body in Mountain View before moving to Coulterville, CA in 2006 where he started his automotive repair business.

Matt was one of three sons born to the late William "Don" and Mary Jo Ashby. He will forever be remembered and celebrated by his devoted family: brother Michael, Lake Don Pedro, CA; brother Kenneth and sister-in-law Rebecca, Litchfield Park, AZ; treasured nephews and niece Blake, Sidney and Jordon; and his long time girlfriend Michele Wheatley of Sunnyvale. Life-long best friend Timothy Jonasson and wife Lori of La Quinta, CA were at his side. Besides his parents, Matt was also preceded in death by grandparents Mary Faulkner and Miriam Ashby.

The Cupertino Block group is truly to be admired. The dedicated 45 year long friendships and support of this group was cherished by Matt and is gratefully appreciated by the families. Matt loved working on cars, riding motorcycles, camping, fishing, playing golf, and listening to country music. He was a devoted St. Louis Rams football fan and cherished his cats and dogs. Countless friends and family were blessed to know him will carry with them his memory.

Matt touched the lives of many people with his smile, generosity, and dedicated friendship. He maintained his trademark sense of humor and continued to share his knowledge all the way to the end.

Friends and family are invited to attend a casual memorial service on Saturday, September 18, 2010 1:00pm at Teske's Germania Restaurant, 255 N 1st St., San Jose, CA 95113. The family requests donations be made in Matt's name to the Humane Society, Dept MEMIT9, 2100 L St. NW, Washington, DC 20037.

I think of things and still find myself thinking that I will speak with him and shoot the breeze with him again. While the profound sadness has dissipated somewhat and I can now smile and remember the good times, the reality of the situation has yet to completely sink in. He was a good guy. God bless him and the Ashby family.
