Paul Brown Obituary

Paul Fremont Brown

Resident of Saratoga and Los Gatos

Passed into the arms of Jesus on December 19, age 89. Paul is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Alice, his children, Diane Brown and Mike Haidet, Darrell and Anne Brown, Judy and Jorge Arreygue, and Jana and Jeff Galt. In addition, he leaves ten grandchildren and a great-grandson, about whom he would brag if you just gave him a moment.

Born in Iowa on March 10, 1921, Paul grew up in Dickenson, North Dakota, where he met his sweetheart at age 17. Five years later, after earning a teaching degree from Dickenson State and being commissioned as a lieutenant in the Air Force, Paul and Alice were married. Paul served in Alaska as a meteorologist during WWII.

Paul earned an Engineering Degree from University of Washington and a Master's Degree in Cybernetic Systems from San Jose State. His post-war career began in Seattle with Boeing. In 1956 he and Alice moved to the Bay Area where he worked for Lockheed until 1983. He was the chief quality control officer for the Hubble Space Telescope project and greatly enjoyed downloading incredible photographs from http://hubble.nasa.gov.

In retirement, Paul became a writer, publishing his first book, From Here to Retirement, in 1988. He also wrote a two volume historical novel based on the life of his father, a Baptist circuit-rider in the North Dakota Badlands during the Great Depression. He loved piloting a private plane and spent many years teaching an Adult Bible Study class at Saratoga Presbyterian Church.

He was a devoted father and grandfather, frequenting the sidelines of many soccer, softball and little league games over the years. But Paul will best be remembered as a loving husband. He expressed his adoration in simple notes to Alice each morning and spoke movingly of their romance that spanned more than 70 years. In lieu of flowers please make gifts to Advent Group Ministries 1-800-98-ADVENT.

Memorial service to be held January 3, 4:00pm, at The Terraces, 800 Blossom Hill Rd., Los Gatos, GRA room.

We sorrow with you upon hearing this news, but not as those who have no hope. We know from our fellowship that Paul held to the blessed hope. We rejoice with you because absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. The Lord will be your comforter and sustainer.
