Robert Hamilton Obituary

Robert Scott Hamilton

Resident of Long Beach, CA

Scott Hamilton grew up in San Jose, graduating from Pioneer High School. He then entered UC-Berkeley, eventually receiving a doctorate in English. While doing post-doctoral work on a Mellon Fellowship at the California Institute of Technology he authored the book Ezra Pound and the Symbolist Inheritance, which is still used today by English Departments in Graduate Schools. After teaching at several colleges and universities in the Los Angeles area as an adjunct Assistant Professor, Scott joined the IEEE Society Computer Magazine in Los Alamitos, California, where he became the Senior Articles Acquisition Editor.

Scott is survived by son Philip at Warren Wilson College in North Carolina and daughter Kate at Macalester College in Minnesota; his parents Robert and Dorothy Hamilton in San Jose; a brother Steven in New Jersey; and a sister Deborah in Alamo.

Private services will be held in Cayucos, California in December.

I went to college with Scott and we shared a house for a year or so. We had some good times. What a shock to hear he's gone.

I was very saddened to hear of Scott's passing. Like others who have written, I was a friend of Scott's in junior high and high school. I remember Scott as a bright, personable and intelligent person, who always had a twinkle in his eye. Scott had a great sense of humor, and treated everyone with respect. I also had the sense that he would be successful in life, and it certainly looks like he was. My deepest condolences to his family.

I am so sorry to hear that Scott is gone. He was my best friend during 8th and 9th grades and was the person who originally sparked my passion which became my life-long love affair with golf. I will never forget that.

Mr. & Mrs. Hamilton,

I can't tell you how sorry I was to hear about Scott's passing. We were classmates at Kirk Elementary, John Muir Junior High and Pioneer HS. I competed with and against Scott in Little League/Senior League baseball, and with him on the high school football and baseball teams. Scott was a gifted athelete and a good friend.

I will remember Scott's smile, positive attitude and genuine friendship. He will truly be missed.

Sincerely,

Bob Irwin

My wife and I went to the same High School as Scott and he was a great friend and was liked by all that knew him. I was just looking at a photo on facebook of him on my shoulders in the Quad at Pioneer, in about 71 or 72 . It reminded me of what a great guy he was and I was going to try and locate him.

If any of the family would like copies of the photos we have on facebook, I'm sure we can forward them to you. We live in Washington State otherwise we would love to be at his Memorial. I can be reached at [email protected] if you want anything forwarded.

I know Scott will be missed by those who knew him best

Best Wishes, Ron and Debi Austen

Mr. & Mrs. Hamilton,

I was extremely saddened to read of Scott's passing. We went through Kirk, John Muir and Pioneer together and I always considered myself very fortunate to have Scott as a friend. I hope you have forgotten or forgiven some of our "chemistry set" episodes in your garage. Beside his brilliance, he was a great athlete. You always wanted Scott on your team! I haven't seen or talked to Scott since our 10 year high school reunion, but not much time goes by without me thinking about good times with Scott and the guys from Kirk. Please express my condolences to his children.
