Ross Mathews Obituary

LCDR. Ross Austin Mathews, Jr.

Resident of San Jose

Passed away peacefully Sept. 15, 2010 at the age of 81. Ross was born Sept. 24, 1928 in Memphis, TN. He was one of the most loving and kind men. In 1960 he married his true love, Nancy. In February of this year they celebrated their 50th anniversary. You would rarely see them apart. His career was the Navy. He was well respected pilot and flight instructor. In retirement Ross was either with Nancy or on the golf course. Golf was his favorite pastime. In his lifetime he accomplished two holes-in-one and a double eagle. At home he loved enjoying time with his dog, Missy. The big, kind golden retriever was Ross' companion, staying by his side at all times and loved taking walks around the block. Ross is survived by his wife, Nancy, son Michael (Andrea), two grandchildren Ashley Lynn and Ross Austin of San Jose and daughter Teresa (Pat and children Lindsay, Weston and Nicholas) of Ben Lomond and brother-in-law Gary Grush of San Jose. He will be missed by many family and friends from across the country. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to www.alz.org or www.hospicevalley.org.

Nancy and Mike (and family),

We are so sorry to hear of Ross's passing. We so enjoyed seeing and talking with him whenever he was in the office. We could always count on Ross coming in with a smile on his face. Regardless of how reluctant he was to be in the office.
