Roy Mory Obituary

Roy Thomas Mory

Resident of San Jose

May 21, 1942-Sept. 9, 2010

Roy Thomas Mory died September 9th on the 18th hole of Santa Teresa Golf Course doing what he loved surrounded by his Thursday golfing buddies.

Roy, who also went by RT, Roy Tommy, Butch, Dad, Poppa and Uncle Butch had such a joy for life and lived it to the fullest every day. He loved tending to his roses from the garden, traveling, golfing, crossword puzzles, and treasured the time he had with his family and friends.

Most of all Roy cherished being a husband of 46 years to the love of his life Sandy who he met berry-picking when they were only 15 years old.

He was a loving Father to Chuck, Brian (Angela) and Jennifer (Hawk); Poppa to Niko, Ashley, Gabriel, Coby and Lindsay; Brother to Jaxine and Evelyn Ann; Brother-in-Law to Gretchen & Michael; Son-in-Law to Norma; Nephew to Jack and Shirley; Uncle and Cousin to many; True friend and dad to all.

Roy worked for GE Nuclear Energy for 37 years and enjoyed being active in the community serving the church in many roles, acting as the Treasurer for the League of Women Voters, and sitting on the Supervisory Committee of the Alliance Credit Union.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, League of Women Voters San Jose/Santa Clara or the Santa Teresa Church Food Pantry.

All are invited to attend Roy's Celebration of Life Friday, September 17th at 4:30pm at Santa Teresa Catholic Church, 794 Calero Avenue, San Jose, CA, (408) 629-7777.

I loved being around Roy. He made me laugh. Roy, Sandy and their children would play word games. and I was playing right along with them. So much fun. I miss Roy too. I loved the Mory family. I am so glad Sandy has been my friend all through the years we have known each other.

We love you all and will miss Roy profoundly. He was a good guy from the heart and he will have a place in heaven for sure. We know he will save places for San and his family and we hope he'll save a place for us, too, so we can hear his belly laugh again. And I wanna hear him say, "Hi Mar! What the heck are you doing here?"

My wife Joy and I have known Roy all the way back to Vallecitos Nuclear Center days and the GE Nuclear days in San Jose. We both thought the most of Roy as a person, friend and co-worker. God bless his family.

Dear Sandy and Family: I will never forget Butch! How could I. I've known him ever since I was thirteen years old!! I was in the berry fields listening to the "coos" and "ahh's" two rows down. We'd giggle and say, "Sandy and Butch are in love". Then Butch came to the house and all my friends thought he looked exactly like Elvis. He'd tease me about the spoolies in my hair and ask me, "You getting any reception yet, Gret?" We played our final game of pool a few months ago and I never realized what a fantastic player he was. I said to him after he had practically run the table, "How come you're so great at pool too, Butch?" He responded, "Oh, I used to hustle pool games for a little extra cash when I was going to Seattle U." RT knew how to make the very best of every moment. Everytime I asked him how he was, he'd said "I'm wonderful." And you know he really was because of his one and only love, Sandy, and his family. I'll miss you so much, RT. Maybe you'll find the perfect vanilla ice cream in heaven.
Love you, Gretchen O'

Sandy and family: We were so shocked and saddened by this news. I have so many wonderful and fond memories of Butch, going back to childhood. When I was a kid and he was working during the summer at H&M with Uncle Mory, he always had time for a bratty little girl following him around like a puppy dog. That never changed as we grew older. He always had time for people, and treated everyone kindly and with respect. He was truly one of the really good guys and oh, could he make me laugh! While I guess we were not "technically" related - we always said we were kissing cousins. He will be sorely missed. Please know that we are praying for all of you. Much love, Jan and Dan
