Theresa A. Hill Obituary
Theresa A. Hill
Resident of Santa Clara
Born a cheerful and optimistic character in 1958 in Northern California as Theresa Ann Rasmussen, Terri Hill led a colorful life for 55 years. She passed away Monday, July 1, 2013 gracefully at home in Santa Clara with the support of her wife Laura Cabral, daughters Monica Hill and Ashley Hill and a few close friends by her side. Raised in San Jose by her parents Jo and Charlie Rasmussen and surrounded by six siblings, Terri attended Saint Victor Elementary School and Piedmont Hills High School, graduating in 1976. She attended West Valley Community College and the Academy of Art in San Francisco.
Terri worked in design and marketing in the Bay Area for 15 years before opening her own graphic design studio, Designer:Hill. At age 45, Terri took her first watercolor class, the beginning of what would become her life's most satisfying and prolific artistic endeavor. Terri found her true colors and pursued watercolor with passion. On January 1, 2009 Terri left her career as a graphic designer and became a full-time professional fine-artist in watercolor. Terri's career flourished as a contemporary realist who painted images of the California good life. An avid, life-long swimmer and runner, Terri created images that reflected her active, holistic lifestyle. Running, biking, swimming, fine food and drink as well as Bay Area iconic images became prevalent themes in her body of work. Terri's passion for painting was immense; she loved to share her expertise and enthusiasm with others, especially those new to fine art. Terri's painting style was big, bright and bold with an emphasis on sharp detail. Terri and her art could be seen at various art and wine festivals and galleries throughout the Bay Area. She was an active member of local, statewide, and national fine art groups.
Terri met the love of her life, Laura Cabral, and they wed at a chapel in Santa Clara County in 2008 before Prop 8 passed. Life was wonderful until March, 2010 when a seizure led to the discovery of a brain tumor, later diagnosed as a grade IV glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). Even as the GBM invaded Terri and Laura's joyful married life together, Terri's grace and optimism was amazing and inspiring through her diagnosis and treatment. When it became apparent that the GBM would cut Terri's life short, she continued to encourage and enrich the people around her. Terri far surpassed the expected life span of her diagnosis due to her good health, optimistic outlook, and the prayers and love of many friends and family. Terri is survived by her parents, three brothers, three sisters, her daughters and wife.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, July 13th at 11:00 AM at the First Unitarian Church, 160 N. 3rd St., San Jose, CA 95112. A foundation has been created in Terri Hill's honor to support up and coming artists, www.livingincolorfoundation.org. A book of Terri's work can be purchased there as well as donations made to the foundation.
