Violet Lardie Obituary

Violet Marguerite Buffo Lardie

Resident of San Jose

94, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2010 at her home in San Jose. Born December 27, 1915 in Pittsburgh, PA, Vi married Charles R. Lardie and moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where the two managed Regal Lanes Bowling Alley for many years.

Vi was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Mary Buffo, her husband Charles, her brothers Joseph, John, and Elmer, sister Sylvia, and her beloved daughter, Marilyn Grace Handley. She is survived by her devoted son-in-law, Gary Handley; grandson Robert Handley; granddaughters Christine Sullivan, Karen Dito, and Stacey Draper; one great- granddaughter and seven great-grandsons; niece Jean Painter; and her most cherished friends, George Burke, Pat Lama, and Sheila Baldi.

During World War II, and after her parents died, Vi moved from Pittsburgh to Cleveland to work in a factory, an original "Rosie the Riveter." There she met her husband, whose diabetes kept him from military service. When in later years diabetes claimed Chuck's sight, Vi ran home and bowling alley and cared for him as well. "Gramma Vi" was an excellent bowler and an avid sports fan. Until her final illness she read the paper every day and followed the Giants religiously. She loved entertaining her friends and playing cards, where she often ended the day with most of the pennies. Her greatest joy was in taking care of her home and family.

At Vi's request, no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Hospice of the Valley, 4850 Union Avenue, San Jose, CA 95124

Aunt Vi, My Mothers sister was quite a loving Lady. Her brother Elmer and his wife ,children and my Mother and myself would go on our great summer adventure to Ohio.
She would cook wonderful Pizza make great roasts and we would eat and have great laughs and share love. I wouldn't
trade those memories for anything.
I was fortunate enough to visit California while Mar was still alive I am grateful for that wonderful experience.
I will miss talking to Aunt Vi, but I know she is in heaven cooking and having a party with all the special people who were waiting for her. Love,Jean painter
