As a student several years ago I invited Pim to come give a talk at a student life sciences symposium in the Netherlands. To my great delight he generously agreed to fly over to do this. As a fellow scientist (and Dutchman) he was and will continue to be an inspiring example of somebody living his dream while making great contributions to science. My sincere sympathy and condolences to Pim's family and friends for this way too early loss..

Pim was original, critical, determined yet excedengly nice person. A rather rare combination of qualities. He will be missed.
