"Big Z", the man with the biggest hugs, gigantic heart and best cinnamon rolls has moved on and will be missed.
In 1988, Zea married the love of his life, Irene. Together they had four children, Zealand Jr., Peter, Christine and Stephanie. Zealand was so proud of his beautiful children and loved them very much. He will be greatly missed by his friends and co-workers at Verifone where he worked for 10 years.
Zealand is the son of Milton and Mere Hatch; brother to Lani, Moana, Tamara, and Perri; son-in-law to Jim and Pat Haggerty and loved by his in-laws, nieces and nephews who count themselves lucky to be in his family. Zealand was quick to laugh and share his abundance of knowledge. He was admired by many and a friend to all. Treasured by his family.
Viewing will be held at LIMA-CAMPAGNA-ALAMEDA MISSION CHAPEL at 600 S. 2nd St. San Jose on Tuesday, Oct. 5 at 7p.m. and Funeral Mass will be held at St. Frances Cabrini Church at 15333 Woodard Rd., San Jose, on Wednesday, Oct. 6 at 10a.m. All are welcome to attend.

Zea was a good man. I spent 6 months with him on a mormon mission in the Philippines. I just learned it today thru Facebook and it broke my heart when I realize it was him. We had alot of good memories together as missionaries. I will definitely miss him. Please accept my heartfelt condolence to his wife and kids.

I will miss Zealand's warm greeting and words of wisdom that I enjoyed. He was a true friend.
I wish the family, a speedy healing process. I am sure that the children will live up to the standards that Zealand would be proud of. I know that he would be happy knowing his children were living as rich a life as Zealand himself did.

Our hearts are with you at this difficult time. We didn't know Zealand as well as we would have liked but, we knew enough to see the amazing man that he was and how very much he loved his family. When I read the news on Facebook this morning my heart dropped like a stone. Although I had only met him once or twice over the years I know he was well loved in the family. I remember meeting him back at a family reunion in 1997 and will always remember him as a big old teddy bear of a man , always with a smile on his face.
On reading all the posts from all his friends and family it was immediately apparent that I would really loved to of meet this man , like he was a man after my own heart. I'm a little sad that I will never get to meet him and my heart goes out to the Hatch family in their time of need.
The body may die but as long as we keep his memory alive in our hearts , in our stories and memories Zealand will never be gone :)

It's been many years since I've had direct contact with the Hatch family but I never fail to remember the kindess shown to me and the how I was always made to feel like part of the family. For short little me, Zea was the biggest person I had ever met. It wasn't just his stature, but heart, warmth and laugh as well. I'm very sorry for your loss.

Irene, Please accept our deepest sympathies and know we are praying for you and the kids.I will never forget the many summers we all spent at the pool. No one was more friendly and fun than Zea. His smile and personality would always light up the atmosphere when he arrived. He was the first Dad in the pool and the last Dad to get out. We will all miss him very much. Dear Irene & children,
It was with the greatest of sorrow that I learned of Zealand's passing yesterday. I send you my prayers of support, warmth, and love. Zealand and I worked together for many years at Amdahl and I will forever remember him as not only a wonderful professional but an outstanding person. Zealand's sense of humor, his big heart, warm hugs and beautiful smile will always be in my heart. Peace & love to you, all. Irene and kids, your Big Z was sucha joy to work with. He always had a huge smile for everyone and a big laugh even when things were not going well at work. The 3 years i worked along side Zealand are the most treasured "work" memories I have. He taught how to bake apples and always enjoy life.
