Hilda Horvat
Resident of Santa Rosa
Hilda Horvat passed away March 7 after courageously battling a long illness. She was born Oct 26, 1931 in Tisina, Slovenia. She was studying to be a chef when she and her husband fled what was then Communist Yugoslavia for America, after spending a year in a refugee camp in Austria. They settled in San Mateo, CA in 1958 where they learned English and she worked as a domestic, in a candle-making company, and later in a factory as an electronic assembler. She devoted her life to her family and to her close circle of friends. Meals were always an exquisite treat, and the smell of homemade breads and desserts was a common occurrence.
Hilda is predeceased by her husband Josef Sr. She is survived by her sister Josephine of Sacramento, her son, Josef Jr and his wife Denese of Santa Rosa, her 3 grandsons Jacob, Eric, and Benjamin, and their mother Susan Trouse-Green of Santa Rosa, and her nieces Darya Cavanna and Ksenja Flynn of Sacramento. She also leaves many nieces and nephews in Slovenia. Friends & family are invited to attend a Church Service, Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at 10 am at St. Rose Catholic Church, 398 10th Street, Santa Rosa. Private burial at Holy Cross Cemetery, Colma. Santa Rosa Mortuary Eggen & Lance Chapel, 707-545-3747.
