Captain William Allan Skinner, USN (Ret.), 85, of Mountain View, died Monday, April 14, 2014. He was born to the late John Seaborn and Annie Skinner, June 26, 1928 in Augusta, Georgia. William graduated from the Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point in 1948. In 1952 he married the late Klotylda Jozwiak of Warsaw, Poland who lived with him in Mountain View until her death in 2006. William earned his Masters in Nuclear Engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School at Monterey in 1958. As a commissioned officer in the US Navy he participated in the design and deployment of nuclear submarines, including the Navy's first nuclear research vehicle, the NR1. He retired as a Captain in 1976 after overseeing Production and Repair of nuclear submarines at Mare Island Naval Shipyard in Vallejo, CA. Over the next two decades he worked as a senior engineer at Lockheed with the team that designed the Sea Shadow, an experimental stealth ship built for the US Navy. He enjoyed travel, photography, carpentry and gardening. He is survived by his three children, Mary, Lydia and John.
Funeral Service will be held Thursday, April 24 at 10:00 a.m. at Cusimano Family Colonial Mortuary, 96 W. El Camino Real, Mtn. View. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point for any purpose in his name (
