Betty Catherine Monroe, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, left this world on July 1, 2014 at El Camino Hospital. She was 91 years old.
Betty was a proud 70 year resident of Mountain View, California. She was born in Ida Grove, Iowa on October 25, 1922. Her idyllic childhood was spent on an Iowa farm. In 1944, after graduating from St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri as a registered nurse, she married the love of her life, Leroy "Red" Monroe. Betty had a long career as an RN at Palo Alto, Stanford and El Camino hospitals. After the loss of her husband in 1978, she immersed herself in many hobbies, such as traveling, oil painting, piano and organ playing, yoga, gardening and volunteering at the Mountain View Performing Arts Center. During this time she also cherished the company of her daughter and grandchildren.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Pamela Lee Potter and two grandchildren Penny Bishop Holtz and Keith "Kit" Culbertson Bishop IV along with their spouses. In addition she is survived by three great-grandsons Max Potter Holtz, London Keegan Grey Bishop and Keith "V" Culbertson Bishop V.
She will be buried at Golden Gate National Cemetery alongside her husband and son, Kenneth Lee Monroe. Her family will have a graveside gathering to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the
