On June 11, 2014, John began his life in heaven, with his children and grandchildren surrounding him John peacefully left us to join his beloved wife Anna.
John was born to Lester and Mary Ivy, and was raised in Waco, Texas, along with his siblings Lester Jr. and Marcella. John joined the United States Army Air Corps in 1946. John was stationed in occupied Japan at the end of World War II and was honorably discharged from the newly formed United States Air Force at the end of his tour in 1953.
John had fallen in love with aviation and chose it as a career. Upon discharge from the U.S. Air Force he became a mechanic for United Airlines. While working for United Airlines in Los Angeles he met the love of his life and future wife Anna.
John wanted to be in the air and see the world he left United and joined Pan American World Airways, working as a Flight Engineer for thirty-eight years. He married Anna in October 1955. The newlyweds settled on Long Island where their daughter Mary was born.
The airline industry can be a nomadic life, John and Anna soon moved to Miami; where their son Terry was born. Within two years the family moved to San Jose where their daughter Ann was born.
John was an original parishioner of Church of the Ascension Catholic Church. John and Anna stayed actively involved with the Church and community throughout their lives. John was a proud member of the Men's Club and Usher.
John was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years Anna. He is survived by his children: Mary (Alan) Marten, Terry (Deborah) Ivy, Ann (Byron) Mau. Grandchildren: Michael Marten, David Marten, Steven Marten, Erin Mau, and Kenneth Mau. Nephews: Charles Brown, Robert Brown, John Scheffer, James Scheffer. Nieces: Marilyn Woolverton, Linda Gyorka, Cecilia Jones, and their families.
Viewing will be Thursday July 10, 2014 from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Alameda Family Funeral and Cremation 12341 Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road, Saratoga, CA.
A Rosary will be held Thursday July 10, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at Alameda Family Funeral and Cremation.
The Funeral Mass will be Friday July 11, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Church of the Ascension located at 12033 Miller Avenue, Saratoga followed by interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Los Altos.
