Jesús "Jess" Martinez Obituary
Jesús "Jess" Martinez
1926-2014
Resident of San Jose
A beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend, Jess passed away at his home on Wed Aug 6, 2014 surrounded by family and loved ones. He was 88 years old.
Born in Bimbaletes, Zacatecas, Mexico, Jess wanted a better life for himself and family, which led him to come to the US when he was 18 years old as part of the Bracero Program of WW II. Settling in San Jose, Jess took a number of jobs, including floor manager at Garden City, Joe's Club and Comstock Casino. Eventually he bought the Plaza Inn Restaurant in Willow Glen, which he ran with his wife Ernestina for the last 30 years.
Jess is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Ernestina Martínez; his children Norma Martínez-Palmer (James), Everardo Martínez, Victor Michael Martínez (Petra), Octavio Martínez (Emmy), and Eduardo Martínez; his grandchildren Victor Michael Jr. (Rosemary), Vanessa (Alex), Nicholas, Cristian, Zahira, Lauren and Alexis; his four great-grandchildren Jasmine, Victor, Isaac, Victoria; and a loving extended family and group of friends in both San Jose and in Mexico. His daughter Gloria Villicanã and his grandson David from Bakersfield also survive him.
Jess was an avid San Francisco Giants fan, and he enjoyed traveling with Ernestina to Las Vegas and visiting his family in Mexico. Jess had a tremendous impact on the people lucky enough to be part of his life; he will be forever in our hearts.
The viewing will be Thu Aug 14, from 3 -7 pm (Rosary at 7 pm) at the Lima Family Chapel, 710 Willow Street. A Funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church on Willow St. at 11 am on Fri Aug 15, with burial immediately following at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery, 490 Lincoln St, Santa Clara.
