Tal was born on June 27, 1919 to Thomas and Georgia Payne, the youngest of six children. He spent his early childhood and early adult life on a farm in Wayne, Oklahoma. Tal joined the Army in 1942 and proudly served during WWII in the Third Armored Division as a tank gunner. Tal survived the "Battle of the Bulge" earning numerous medals one of which being the Purple Heart.
In 1947 Tal married his loving wife Helen and moved to Coalinga, CA. Soon after a move to Campbell was made where he spent the remainder of his life.
Tal owned and operated Tal's Texaco Service on San Tomas Aquino Road in Campbell from 1955-1968.
Those who knew and loved Tal treasured his delightful sense of humor. Tal "adopted" many into his family and was often referred to by others as "Uncle Tal" whether he was their uncle or not. His character was defined by his simplicity and integrity. His faith in God was a witness to all and his life was an example and blessing to many.
Tal is survived by his 4 children, 8 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren. Tal is preceded in death by his wife Helen and Grandson Brian.
A service will be held on Sat. 8/30 in Chapel of Roses at 2pm with burial following.
