Resident of Longmont, CO
Jane Ann Carswell, 85, previously of Half Moon Bay, CA, passed away Friday August 15, 2014. Jane was born February 11th, 1929 in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Frank L. and Grace (Geminhard) Carswell. Jane attended Hale Cook Elementary school and graduated from Southwest High School. She attended college at the University of Colorado where she majored in PE, was an honor student, an active member in Kappa Alpha Theta, and a Cheerleader. After graduation Jane taught PE at Iowa State University. Four years later Jane heard "the call of the West" and attended Stanford University CA where she earned her M.A. in Counseling and Guidance. The following year Jane was hired by the Palo Alto School District where she served as a High School counselor and taught PE until her retirement.
Jane, the ultimate athlete, excelled in every sport that interested her, but her favorite was sailing her beloved sail boat, The Degage. Jane and her friends spent many hours sailing the San Francisco Bay and throughout the San Joaquin Delta. Longer voyages in Belize and a trip from Cancun to Florida honed her sailing skills. In the winters, she spent many weekends in Bear Valley, CA where she and her friends would gather at her cabin to ski the slopes and skidoo the many trails. Golf was another of Jane's favorite pastimes, especially in retirement. In 2003 Jane won the Half Moon Bay ladies Most Improved Player Award. Often you could hear Jane say her familiar phrase "Watch me, I'm good!" when demonstrating a sport, and she was right.
Jane never met a stranger, saying a friendly 'Hello' to everyone who crossed her path. She shared her passions with anyone who cared to come along for the ride.
