Glenn E. Michelson

Resident of Redwood City

Died at Stanford Hospital in Palo Alto on June 19, 2010 at the age of 67. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on Dec. 22, 1942, the son of Andrew and Corinne (Connie) Michelson.

He received his BA in mathematics from Northwestern University, his MA in education from Stanford University, and taught mathematics and German at Sequoia High School in Redwood City from 1965 to 2000. He was the CSF Advisor at Sequoia for 23 years and he served on the CSF/CJSF State Board since 1986. He was the state President of CSF/CJSF from 1999 to 2001, and the state CSF Registrar from 2002 to 2005. He was Sequoia District Teacher of the Year for 1985-1986 and the San Mateo County Teacher of the Year for 1986. He was listed in Who's Who Among American Educators in the 1992, 1994, 1998, and 2002 editions, and he was a mentor teacher four times. As a 13th generation descendant of the Pilgrim William Brewster, he was a member of the Society of Mayflower Descendants. He was a founding member of the San Mateo County Genealogical Society, and previously served on the Bay Area Admissions Council for Northwestern University, on the STEP Program advisory board for Stanford, and on the Board of Directors of the Archives Committee of the Redwood City Public Library. He was an avid traveler and had visited 48 US states and 75 foreign countries.

He is survived by 9 cousins and many friends, including Bob and Sumako Travis of Menlo Park.

Friends are invited to attend a visitation on Friday, June 25, 2010 at Crippen & Flynn Woodside Chapel 400 Woodside Rd. Redwood City, beginning at 10:00 am with a funeral service beginning at 11:00 am. Burial will follow to Skylawn Memorial Park in San Mateo. Donations to the Sequoia High School Scholarship Fund, 1201 Brewster Ave., Redwood City, CA 94062 are preferred. Crippen & Flynn Woodside Chapel
